Just had one of the most amazing times staying at this hotel. I agree though that your experience will depend very much on the weather that you get. We have been totally lucky to have the clearest sky during our whole stay. The location at the top of the hill that directly over looks Lake Toya, makes this place a perfect place for anyone looking for peace, comfort and luxury. the Hotel in the winter also was full of exciting activities. The 2-style onsens in the hotel were also impressive. Good range of Restaurants, including the Ramen and Michel Bras restaurant, though some of these are overpriced. Staff was professional and with good service minds. All in all i definitely would give them a 9/10 !!! Im definitely going back!

We stayed at the Windsor for one night in July 2007 as part of a four day trip to Hokkaido. The hotel is in a spectacular location with wonderful views. We traveled by train and arranged a pick-up from the hotel's shuttle bus from Toya station (you need to phone ahead). The shuttle took us to the town at Lake Toya the next day. Arranging this transport is important due to the hotel's isolation. We checked in quite late, so the choice of restaurants was limited as many close relatively early. We had dinner in the Sake restaurant/bar where we had good food. The hotel offers quite basic rooms but all were clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet (one of several choices) was good and offered a variety of Japanese and Western food. The hotel's lobby is also worth seeing. Service was efficient and professional

Getting there was a big challenge. We have to rely on the GPS and know "kanji" if you want to drive, which we did. You can of course take the train which may be more convenient. Once we got there, the place is idyllic and serene. The room was good but not exceptional which is what one would expect in Japan. The onsen is not big but adequate. But what really impressed us was the food. From the simple noodle restaurant to Michel Bras to the sushi restaurant (we only managed to try three as the others were fully booked), they were absolutely amazing! Worth going there for the food alone. Language is a problem but they speak passable English.
